Il
centro urbano nato attorno al Santuario della Madonna
di Custonaci, meta di pellegrinaggi già nel
XIV secolo è caratterizzato da tipiche costruzioni a Baglio
[nuclei abitativi col cortile interno]. Di notevole interesse
geologico sono le grotte disseminate per tutto il territorio che
va dal Monte Sparacio al Monte Cofano
una fra tutte la Grotta Mangiapane
di origine carsica e teatro ogni anno di una originale e "sentita"
rappresentazione del Presepe Vivente. |

The urban centre, which
is built around the Santuary of Madonna of Custonaci, was the destination
of many pilgrims in XIV century. It was characterized by typical
buildings “a Baglio” (houses with internal countryard).
From a geological point of view, the caves all around the town,
from Mount Sparacio to Mount Cofano, are very interesting: the most
beautiful is the Karsic Mangiapane Cave, which every year is the
stage of the original and heart-felt representation of the “Presepe
Vivente”(Live Christmas Crib). Custonaci bases its economy
on te quarrying of the “Perlato di Sicilia” from the
numerous marble quarries in the territory. |
